Picture of President Reagan

A political party cannot be all things to all people.  It must represent certain fundamental beliefs, which must not be compromised to political expediency or simply to swell its numbers....  And if there are those who cannot subscribe to these conservative principles, then let them go their own way.

Special Session Information

All of the budget bills were given equal weight. Because this was a special session, no points were given for bill sponsorship.

Also, there were committee votes that affects the rankings since senators and representatives who have committee votes in addition to floor votes get a higher ranking if there is a tie in percentages. This gave the Appropriations Committee members more opportunities to vote. When there were ties based on both percentage and number of votes, the highest rank of the group was given as the rank for all legislators in that group. Note that Appropriations Committee members have the highest ranks because they had the most voting opportunities and those voting “Republican” in all votes got a 100% rating. Other members who also had perfect voting records did not have as many voting opportunities, but they still did a great job.

In the House of Representatives, almost all Republicans voted with a perfect 100% rating and almost all Democrats voted with a perfectly imperfect -100% rating. Scores for Representative Jim Weiers were excluded because he was out of state when the special session was called and was unable to return to the legislature before the special session ended, so he was unable to cast votes on bills. All Republicans present for the special session are rated as Reagan Republicans for the special session.

In the Senate, the scores were not as uniform. Most Republican senators were rated as Reagan Republicans for the special session, but 3 got lower ratings. Democrats had mostly -100% ratings.
